Some days on the job involve pulling wire, reading blueprints, and solving complex electrical challenges on a jobsite. And then there are the days that remind you exactly why the trades matter, days like Career Day at Magnolia Elementary School in Oakdale, California.
For the third year in a row, Modesto Executive Electric was proud to show up for the students at Magnolia Elementary, spending a morning with a room full of curious, energetic 2nd graders ready to learn what it means to be an electrician.
Sparking Curiosity, One Circuit at a Time
This year's group did not disappoint. From the moment we started talking about how electricity fuels everyday life, the lights overhead, the devices in their homes, the systems that keep their school running, the questions started flying.
We walked the students through the basics of open and closed circuits, covered essential electrical safety, and talked about the trades as a real, rewarding career path. These kids wanted to know everything, and our lead electrician was ready for every question they threw at him.
Spoiler: they threw some great ones.
Why Career Day Matters to Us
The electrical trade is built on people who took an interest early, found a mentor, and followed a path that led to meaningful, well-paying work. Women make up less than 4% of electricians nationwide and the trades as a whole are facing a significant workforce gap as experienced professionals retire and fewer young people are aware of the opportunities available to them.
Career Day is one small way to change that. Showing up at a school, putting tools in kids' hands, and making electricity approachable and exciting, that plants a seed. And every now and then, one of those seeds grows into the next great electrician.
Third Year, Same Mission
We have been coming back to Magnolia Elementary because the community matters to us. Oakdale is part of the Central Valley we serve every day, and investing in its next generation is something Modesto Executive Electric takes seriously.
To the teachers and staff at Magnolia Elementary, so thank you for welcoming us back year after year. To our lead electrician, thank you for making it look easy. And to the 2nd graders who spent a morning thinking about circuits, safety, and what they want to be when they grow up, the future of the trades is in good hands.
We will hope to see you all again next year!
