Our National Construction Appreciation Week spotlight series continues with Kevin Dias, foreman on Modesto Executive Electric's project at Grace M. Davis High School.
On the Job at Grace M. Davis High School
Kevin leads the MEE crew on-site at Grace M. Davis High School, where the team has been handling the project's electrical work. It's steady, detail-driven work that keeps a busy campus running, and Kevin's crew has been behind it every step of the way.
The Davis project is one Kevin counts among his favorites in nearly three decades on the job. "We're doing this Davis project right now, it's a stadium and swimming pool... those are great projects," Kevin said. It joins a long list of Central Valley school campuses he's worked on over the years, including Central Valley High School, Waterford High School, and Ripon High School. "I've actually worked on several projects and I'm pretty proud of every one of them, 'cause I take real pride in my work."
Meet Kevin
Kevin Dias has been in the electrical trade for 28 years, getting his start at 20 years old. He figured the job would be simple, a few outlets, a few lights, and instead found himself in the dirt running shovels and excavators. Nearly three decades later, that experience helped shape him into one of MEE's most experienced foremen.
Ask Kevin what's kept him in the trade this long, and the answer isn't the work itself; it's the people. "Honestly, I think it's the camaraderie with all the guys, our own personal guys, having a great time," Kevin said. "Over the years you become really good friends with other trades too... it's fun to have that kind of people around you."
When asked what he'd tell someone considering a career in the trades, Kevin said:
"Be prepared to work hard. It's a great trade to be in because we work year-round... there's a lot to it, so it's not just one thing, you're learning a lot of different aspects of the electrical trade."
