It's National Construction Appreciation Week, and all week we're introducing you to the foremen who lead Modesto Executive Electric's crews on Central Valley school campuses. First up: Fabian Cervantes, foreman on our project at Campus Park Elementary.
On the Job at Campus Park Elementary
Fabian has been leading our team on-site at Campus Park Elementary, where MEE crews have been handling the school's electrical work throughout the project. It's the kind of work that doesn't always get noticed once the ribbon is cut, but it keeps classrooms lit, systems running, and campuses safe for the students and staff who use them every day.
It's the kind of steady leadership Fabian is known for. On a past MEE project in Yuba City, he and fellow foreman John Marshall stepped in to complete a Musco lighting installation after the lead on the job had to leave partway through. "It was pretty nice to be able to achieve, to finish the project when the main foreman had left," Fabian said. "We kind of took over and kind of showed that we were capable of doing those things."
Meet Fabian
Fabian Cervantes has been in the electrical trade since 2011, getting his start traveling to jobs changing out lighting at storage facilities. A connection through his brother-in-law, who worked at MEE, led him to the company's apprenticeship program, and he's been part of the MEE team ever since, now with more than 10 years under his belt and a foreman title he's earned on the job.
What keeps him going after all these years comes down to family. "If we're gonna be honest, it's my kids, my family, just providing, making sure they have what they need so that they don't have any needs that aren't met," Fabian said. "I wanna show them that life ain't easy and you just gotta get up and go do it sometimes."
When asked what he'd tell someone considering a career in the trades, Fabian said:
"It's a good trade to get into. There's always gonna be a need. School isn't for everyone. You come out of it with a lot of debt. In this trade you don't. It's all on the job training, and everything's paid through the work you provide. So if you're comfortable working with tools, and it's hard work, physical work, but if you're up for it, I would encourage it."

National Construction Appreciation Week exists to recognize the people who build the places we live, learn, and work in, and to encourage the next generation to consider a career in the trades. Foremen like Fabian are exactly who this week is about: the ones on-site every day, making sure the work gets done right, on schedule, and safely.
